I am an engineering student and I bought these for a reverse engineering project I was working on and they work great. They are incredibly cheap but still feel solid. If you need perfect accuracy these aren’t for you — I would go with a higher end caliper. But for general use these are great — we also use them in the shop all the time for machining and they get the job done. Just make sure the screws are tightened or they will give inaccurate results.
As an engineer and product designer, my caliper is an indespensible tool. Up until this point I've only ever used the readily available 6 and 7 inch models. Moving up to this 12-inch caliper is highly convenient. There were so many times where my smaller calipers were just too small, and having precise readings up to 12" has been wonderful. The build quality is top-notch. The caliper feels very solid, unlike most of the cheaper, smaller callers. Highly recommend!
I really love these calipers. I'm an apprentice machinist, and can't quite afford the fancy stuff yet. Our senior machinists give me a bit of hell for using "cheap ass calipers" but they've served me very well so far, and it's been a few months of daily use.
Nice tool, especially at this price point. Accurate is fine against gage blocks over the range. Time to time .001 heavy, but that seems to be just the nature of using this tool. Rechecking generally shows spot on. Should be using my mics for work that close anyway. As for the fractional function. Did not really see any use for that, until I got this caliper. Wonderful thing for sorting and picking out drills! Very handy. I recommend this tool.
I recently picked up a 3d printer. This caliper has been great. Simple to use. It converts from MM, to Inch, to Fractions of and Inch (with numerator denominator) with a press of a button. I can quickly measure anything up to six inches. For the home user accuracy I am going for, this thing is perfect.
